Student Sustainability at AU

Students have long been leaders in sustainability at American University and there are many ways for students to get involved on campus. Additional Resources

  • Become a Sustainability Intern

    Sustainability Interns are part-time, paid students hired to work on a variety of projects in the Office of Sustainability. Projects include data analysis and research related to ongoing sustainability projects, work on green building and campus sustainability reporting, outreach and communications, and education and curricula development.

    Sustainability Interns are hired for an entire academic year, and applications for internships are posted each summer. Subscribe to the sustainability newsletter to receive notifications about upcoming internship opportunities. 

    U.S. Green Building Council

  • All instructors and students have access to American University’s institutional subscription to the U.S. Green Building Council. This subscription provides many resources, lesson plans, presentations, and case studies related to green buildings and sustainability. To access these resources, please follow these instructions:
    • Create an account through the USGBC website using your american.edu email address.

    • Within your account settings, you will see an option to connect your account with an institutional account.

    • Search for “American University,” select the DC campus, and request access to join.
