DC Reads Work with K-8, high school, and adult learners!

DC Reads is an education advocacy program which places over 100 American University undergraduate and graduate students a semester within 7 community-based organizations in DC public schools supporting K-8th, high school, and adult learners.

Tutoring and mentoring are at the center of the DC Reads experience. We aim to facilitate the development of American University students as Education Advocates in communities starting at the local level in Washington, D.C.

If you are interested in becoming an Education Advocate, either as a volunteer or a federal work study student, applications open at the beginning of the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. Students can apply using the GivePulse registration, and will be interviewed and placed at the community partner that best fits your interests and schedule. New Education Advocates will be required to complete a background check to work with our community learners.
