Dean Roger A. Fairfax, Jr. has named Heather Hughes as Senior Associate Dean for Faculty & Academic Affairs at Washington College of Law.
Hughes, a professor of law, comes to the role after teaching commercial, business, and property law at WCL since 2007.

A distinguished group of changemakers across American University took time to reflect on their time at AU before they graduate. WCL's Changemaker, Juliette Jackson, is a member of the Klamath tribes and will work to increase access to pro bono advocacy, policy, and litigation services to tribal communities impacted by climate change in California, Nevada, and Oregon.

A leaked Supreme Court draft majority opinion obtained by Politico strikes down Roe v. Wade, throwing the legality of abortion enshrined in federal law into question. While the decision itself has caused major waves and will likely face fierce opposition, the leaked draft opinion marks a historic moment for the sanctity and privacy of the decisions made within SCOTUS.

Organized by the WCL Center on International Commercial Arbitration, the Ninth LL.M. International Commercial Arbitration Moot Competition was created specifically for LL.M. students and seeks to foster the study of international arbitration for the resolution of international business disputes and investment disputes. The University of Pittsburgh, Georgetown University, Fordham University, and other law schools competed this year. WCL proudly brought home two wins during the competition.

On Thursday, April 21, the Washington College of Law Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee concluded its three-series panel on rising levels of hate in the United States and around the world. The final panel featured Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League and was moderated by Dean Roger A. Fairfax, Jr. Greenblatt is the author of the new book It Could Happen Here, which details rising levels of hate and systemic violence in the United States and projects that more could be on the way without intervention.
