Campus Mail Services

Delivering and processing all mail sent to and from campus, for students, faculty, and staff

We understand that your packages are important, and every effort is made to alert students to their package arrival. Your package will be held for a total of 8 days before it is considered unclaimed or abandoned. Upon processing, additional notifications are sent after 24-, 48-, and 72-hour intervals. After 5 days, a final reminder is sent to alert you of the potential package return. Two additional reminders will follow at 24- and 48-hour intervals if the package remains unclaimed. If no action is taken after these three additional reminders, your package will be treated as unclaimed or abandoned. Mail Services will work with all shipping companies delivering packages to American University to return any unclaimed packages back to the third-party shipping company (such as FedEx, UPS, USPS, Amazon, etc.). If the shipping company refuses to pick up the unclaimed or abandoned packages, Mail Services will dispose of the package per University Policy.

AU Mail and Package Center will not accept alcohol deliveries. Packages that arrive with alcohol will be returned to the sender, where the carrier accepts these returns. In instances where we are unable to return the item, the item will be destroyed. The university and its supplier accept no financial responsibility for orders placed violating this policy.

Please ensure that any packages you have sent to campus are scheduled to be delivered near the time of your arrival, as the university can only store items for a short period of time due to limited storage capacity.

Mail Services picks up and delivers departmental campus mail, and processes outgoing mail related to official university business. Mail Services also receives, delivers, and processes student mail.
