Hours for Library Services

Full hours of all Library locations and services for the upcoming semester

During the Spring and Fall semesters, all AU Library floors are available for use until 2AM Sunday-Thursday and until 6PM Friday-Saturday.  First floor study space is available 24/7 with a valid AUID.

Research Librarians assist students and scholars through the research process through an online chat service. We help students locate the best available sources for their projects and papers and provide guidance on research strategies. Subject specialist librarians are available for personal appointments in cases that require specific expertise. Please refer to our page Ask A Librarian with any research questions. You will be able to use our chat, send an email, or use our FAQ. We look forward to helping you!

Media Services loans a wide variety of audiovisual equipment - cameras, microphones, audio recorders, video recorders, and accessories - for class use, assignments, research and teaching. All equipment is available to current AU students, faculty and staff.

Need help or interested in learning more about making academic posters, 3D prints, or makerspaces? Representatives from the Technology Services unit are available remotely to guide you through the printing process, potential resources, and to answer questions. Geared towards beginners, you'll have the opportunity to learn about printing basics for the two services, and we'll help you schedule appointments to pick up your final prints.

The Music Library houses library collections supporting the coursework of AU academic programs in music and the performing arts. The collections represent a broad spectrum of subjects, periods, and styles, including classical music, musical theatre, jazz, blues, world music, and popular music.

ACC closed until Aug 30th. Normal hours will resume during the Fall Semester. An AU ID card is required for entry.

The Anderson Computing Complex has over 100 Windows computers. There are also four classrooms available by reservation for all academic departments. Current class schedules are posted at the ACC. This is a general purpose computing center. Find more information here.

Canvas Support is available virtually through August 23rd. In person assistance will be provided on the 3rd floor of Bender Library during the Fall Semester. Get support, tips, and tutorials here.

The Graduate Research Center is only available for use by current graduate students. If you're a graduate student and your ID is not working, please contact Access via email at access@american.edu.

Archives and Special Collections is open by appointment only, Monday-Thursday 10am-4pm.

Appointment, reference, and donation inquiries can be made by filling out this form.

Archives and Special Collections is located in the Spring Valley Building at 4801 Massachusetts Ave NW, Suite 204, Washington, DC 20016. Please note that AU Community members (students, faculty, and staff) will need their One Card to access the building and parking. All Visitors and Guests will receive access information after setting their appointment. Directions and parking information.

Archives and Special Collections acquires, preserves and makes available to researchers unique materials of enduring value to support research and teaching. Archives and Special collections materials do not circulate and its stacks are closed. American University faculty, staff, students, and other researchers are accorded access to these materials in the Archives Reading Room.
